It’s no secret that technology has found a footing in every industry. Artificial Intelligence  coupled with an ever-increasing availability of new expertise and resources has already had a tremendous impact on a global scale, and will continue to do so. Robotics and automation solutions are among the most prevalent of technological advancements that will shape the construction industry for years to come. But what does that mean for you as a project manager? Read on to learn how you can take advantage of the latest technology for every job you do.

Increased Efficiency

Many project managers are hesitant when it comes to the idea of using robots to do a job that requires the ability to make quick decisions and adapt to unpredictable circumstances. It’s understandable that you would want your team to be the one to make these decisions themselves. There is no replacement for the expertise that your team brings to the table.

However, including advanced technology into your development process does not have to be an “all or nothing” situation. Rather, as you teach your team how to use the technology and integrate it into their daily processes, you can create a symbiotic relationship between your team and the new technology you want to use. As your team begins to adapt to these changes, you will find that utilizing robotics can help your team become more efficient at their jobs, which, in turn, means a more streamlined process for your project overall.

Increased Safety

This is especially true for tasks that your team performs on a routine basis. It’s human nature to become susceptible to various elements around you, whether they be work-related, a personal issue, or even a distraction caused by weather concerns. As these distractions build, so does the likelihood of human error. You can never guarantee a specific outcome 100% of the time, but by using robotics to assist your team with these repetitive tasks, you will decrease the likelihood for dangerous mistakes.

It’s also important to note that while your team is made up of highly qualified people, that doesn’t make them immune to burning out on a job, struggling to maintain focus, or needing a break after working a long shift. There is nothing wrong with these things – safety is one of your highest priorities. However, if you choose to incorporate robots and automated systems, you can keep your project going for longer periods without endangering your team members.

Lowered Costs

You know how detailed and complicated the development of your project can be. Once you have completed the planning process and are working with your construction management company on the actual assembly and construction of your project, you know that your time and resources are precious. You have a budget, and you need to stick to it. You may look at the cost of adding robots or automation and dismiss it based on your budget constrictions alone.

But while it’s always a good rule of thumb to never spend what you don’t have, it’s also wise to look at your integration of robots as a worthy investment. As stated above, it may take some time for your team to fully adapt to using this technology, especially to its most efficient capabilities. However, once your team and your technology are working in sync, you will find that you can actually save costs through the use of robotics.

For instance, you may currently spend a considerable amount of time answering questions or giving directions. Instead of wasting time – and money – on communicating and correcting misunderstandings, you could utilize a mobile technology that allows your team to ask questions or give updates from wherever they are, even if they are across the globe. You could incorporate an AI program that answers the questions your team has without involving you in the process at all. Using technology well means you spend less time on answering the same questions over and over again and more time working hands-on with your project.

Technology can be overwhelming – but it can also be the key to your success. Do your research and learn exactly how robotics can change the future for your next project.
